Take a hiking tour through the Valley of Hunza, nestled close to the Chinese border. This immortalised Kingdom will take you back in time, and you will learn first hand some of the ancient myths attached to it. It is famous for the longevity of its people, its fresh fruits and its lively atmosphere.

Itinerary

Day 1: Islamabad - Arrival at Islamabad airport, where you will be met, and then transfer to hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Chilas - Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast drive to Chilas via Taxila. Chilas was on the ancient caravan trail over the Babusar Pass into India and on the Indus trail of Besham, and many rock engravings were left by travellers in this area. Chilas is standing under the shadow of world famous Nanga Parbat. On arrival transfer to the hotel.

Day 3: Karimabad - Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast drive to Karimabad via Gilgit. Karimabad is the delightful old capital of the Hunza Kingdom. From Karimabad, with its souvenir shop, post office and tea shop, you can obtain a magnificent view of the valley laid out below you and of the peaks behind. The Aliabad/Karimabad area is sprinkled with wild flowers and blossoming fruit orchards. We will spend half our day in these two towns enjoying the greenery and delighting in the sound of the babbling brooks. We travel to a picturesque valley only 10 miles from Bomboret. Our guide will show you the hamlets of Balanguru and Kalashgram. A short but trying walk up to the steep ridge is rewarded with an ancient Kalash temple decorated with wooden horses and human figures. The gay and jocand Kafirs are given to lively dances and music, and they worship and seek help from their gods only when they are in trouble. You will be in awe of the enchanting panorama. On arrival transfer to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 4: Karimabad - Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast drive to Ghulmet for the Rakaposhi hike. Rakaposhi (7,788m) could be seen from Rakaposhi View Point on Karakoram Highway. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5: Gulmit - Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning proceed on the Ulter Hike. We shall hike up well worn trails to Baltit and then parallel the Burber Water Channel to Hyderabad Village. We shall then descend to Aliabad Village and then walk through the small Villages of Chumarkand (Iron Fort), Dorkhand and others before returning to the hotel. The day's easy hiking will be 5-6 hours, and will serve as an excellent photo opportunity. We will have constantly changing views of Rakaposhi, Diran, Golden Peak and Ultar I and II. Meals and overnight at the Baltit Inn. In the afternoon transfer to Duiker. Arrive and transfer to hotel. Overnight at the hotel. After breakfast proceed on the day hike to Dhuikar summer Village, which is located at an altitude of approximately 10,000 feet. We begin the trek by going through Baltit Village to the Imam Yari water channel which feeds Lower Altit Village. We walk parallel to the water channel for approximately 45 minutes, before branching off on a local trail up to Dhuikar. The Dhuikar summer Village was established to supplement the food supply of Altit Village, and is habited only from April to October. From the crest of the hill which dominates the Village, we have panoramic views of lower Hunza Valley, Nagar Valley, Rakaposhi, Hoper Glacier, Ultar II and Bubliting, amongst others. From the Dhukar Summer Village we can take an optional 1-1.5 hour round trip excursion to the Shrine of Hazrat Abbass, locally renowned for his spiritual powers to heal, and cure infertility. The return trail follows the jeep track to Altit Village, before returning to Karimabad. The day's journey would be 5-6 hours, and is easy hiking. In the afternoon drive to Gulmit Valley. The Gulmit excursion leads us to one of the prettiest valleys in this magical Kingdom of Hunza. The surrounding snow-capped peaks and shimmering glaciers are in breath-taking contrast with the greenery and orchard blossoms. We would spend time here hiking amongst the rocks torn asunder by passing glaciers, and resting under apricot trees heavy with the blossoming scent of summer. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 6: Gulmit - Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast proceed on the Borith Hike. Borit Lake is a salt/brackish lake nestled between Gulmit and Passu, adjacent to Gulkin Glacier. Drive to Gulmit Village where we will visit the cultural museum, the oldest known local house, and the old polo field before heading to Ghulkin Village. The trail is well-defined and used by the locals as their main route between Gulmit and Ghulkin. We will hike to Kamaris and Andra Villages, and arrive at Ghulkin Village. En route we have good views of Jerab Glacier, the Jerab Peaks and the Passu Cathedrals (Karon Range). From Ghulkin Village we will traverse Ghulkin Glacier (the high point of our hike will be 9500 feet) to Borit Lake, before descending to the Karakoram Highway. The day's journey is about 1-1.5 hours of driving, plus 6-7 hours easy hike. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 7: Chilas - Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast drive to Chilas. Chilas was on the ancient caravan trail over the Babusar Pass into India and on the Indus trail of Besham, and many rock engravings were left by travellers in this area. Chilas is standing under the shadow of world famous Nanga Parbat. On arrival transfer to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 8: Islamabad - Breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast drive to Islamabad. On arrival transfer to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 9: Islamabad - Breakfast at the hotel. Full day sightseeing of Islamabad City. We will begin our sightseeing tour from Damn-e-Koh passing through Constitution Avenue and Margallah Road. Damn-e-Koh is situated at an altitude of 1,100m which provides bird's eye view of Islamabad, the beautiful capital of Pakistan. Then we will drive to Shah Faisal Mosque. Our next stop will be at the Shakar Parian, "Sweet Hills" to catch a bird's eye view of Islamabad from eastern side, before returning to the hotel. The Islamabad Museum displays artefacts from 500,000 BC until the independence of Pakistan in 1947. Featured in the museum are unique collections from the earliest period of the stone age, found in the Soan valley near Islamabad; Indus valley civilization relics from Kot Diji dating back to 2800 BC; splendid sculptures depicting the pre-birth stories of Buddha (known as Jatkas) from the Ganghara civilization; Mughal poetry, miniature paintings and coins from the Islamic renaissance period; and photographs, newspaper cuttings and details of important events of Pakistan's independence. In the evening transfer to the airport for flight to home.
